Support my Move Your Butt challenge

This February, I’m taking on Move Your Butt for Bowel Cancer to raise money to support vital patient services and fund research to stop bowel cancer taking the people we love.

Because every month, 100 Kiwis lose their lives to bowel cancer.

Every dollar I raise for Bowel Cancer New Zealand will fund essential services for patients and survivors, such as counselling, physiotherapy, and financial assistance. These services provide the support and care that many people desperately need as they battle bowel cancer.

I’m asking for your help. Your donation, no matter how big or small, will help me reach my fundraising goal and provide life-changing support and research to help those affected by bowel cancer.

It only takes a minute to donate, and your generosity will make a real difference to the lives of those who need it most. Together, we can help fight bowel cancer and make sure no one has to face it alone.

Thank you for your support! 🧡

Why I’m Participating!

Thursday 22nd Jan
I am participating in this fundraising event in honour of my aunty Tracey Thomas who was only 49 when she was diagnosed with bowel cancer and after fighting for her life, survived. She is the strongest wahine I know and one of my very best friends since Day 1, I am so thankful everyday that she survived her battle. I also really want to be able to use this campaign to bring to light the inequities we as māori face in healthcare and bring attention to the discriminatory ways this government and previous governments have treated us.

Did you know that last year the current government rejected a targeted extension that would try to  roll out screening to māori and pacifika from age 50 and non māori from 60 as a response to data that showed between 2000-2020 that the occurrence of Māori people with bowel cancer under 50 rose by 36% per decade (higher than the rise for the total population at 26%). Instead they decided that lowering the age by 2 years to 58 for all populations regardless of the risk for māori communities was appropriate action.

So this is not only for my aunty, a badass mana wahine and a true guiding figure in my life, but it’s also for all the māori people who have gone dismissed by a system not built for them but is in-fact at times working against them.

Any donations or sponsorships are really appreciated!
