Bowel Cancer New Zealand (BCNZ) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Statement explains how we collect, use, store, and disclose your personal information when you participate in the Move Your Butt (MYB) campaign, in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

The MYB campaign is a peer-to-peer fundraising initiative hosted on online fundraising platform, Funraisin. By registering as a participant, creating a fundraising page, joining or forming a team, making a donation, or otherwise engaging with the campaign, you agree to this Privacy Statement.

This statement applies specifically to the MYB campaign and supplements the Bowel Cancer New Zealand Privacy Policy available on our main website.

Personal information we collect

Depending on how you engage with the campaign, we may collect:

  • Your name and contact details (email address, phone number, postal address)
  • Payment and billing information when you make a donation or purchase
  • Fundraising page content, including any personal story, photos, or videos you choose to share
  • Team membership details and your association with other participants
  • Activity data such as kilometres logged towards your challenge goal
  • Donation history and amounts (which may be displayed publicly on leaderboards, unless you choose to donate anonymously)
  • Communications between you and BCNZ, including messages sent through the platform

If you choose not to provide certain information, you may be unable to register for the campaign, create a fundraising page, or receive donation receipts.

We collect information directly from you when you:

  • Register for the Move Your Butt campaign
  • Create or update your fundraising page
  • Join or create a team
  • Make a donation or sponsor a participant
  • Log your activity or kilometres

We may also receive information from the fundraising platform provider and payment processors in connection with your registration and donations.

How we use your information

We use your personal information for purposes connected to operating the campaign and our charitable functions, including:

  • Processing your registration and managing your participation
  • Processing donations and issuing tax receipts
  • Displaying fundraising progress on your page, team pages, and campaign leaderboards
  • Sending you campaign updates, encouragement, and information about your progress
  • Responding to your enquiries and providing support
  • Thanking and acknowledging donors and fundraisers

  • Sending information about BCNZ's work, events, and future fundraising opportunities (with your consent)

Publicly visible information

When you register to fundraise as part of the MYB campaign, you will automatically be added to BCNZ's communications list. This allows us to send you updates and information about our programmes and campaigns.

Please be aware that certain information may be publicly visible on the campaign website. This includes your fundraising page (including your name, story, photos you upload, and fundraising progress), team pages, and leaderboard rankings.

Please be aware that if you upload a tribute picture and comment, this will be displayed on both your fundraising page and the MYB tribute wall, both of which are available for the general public.

Donors may choose whether their name and donation amount are displayed publicly or remain anonymous.

You can control much of what appears on your fundraising page. If you have concerns about publicly visible information, please contact us.

Who we share your information with

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share it with trusted third parties who assist us in operating the campaign and delivering our services, including:

  • Our online fundraising platform provider
  • Payment processors for secure donation handling
  • Email and communication service providers
  • Cloud hosting and data storage providers
  • Analytics services to help us understand campaign performance
  • Professional advisers and service providers as required

We require all service providers to protect your information appropriately and use it only for the purposes we specify.

Overseas disclosure

Some of our third-party providers may be located outside of New Zealand, including cloud service providers, platform providers, and payment processors. This may mean some of your information is disclosed, held, or processed outside of New Zealand.

Information for participants from outside New Zealand

The Move Your Butt campaign welcomes participants and donors from around the world. If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with data protection laws, please note that by participating in the campaign, your information will be transferred to and processed in New Zealand. We will handle your information in accordance with New Zealand privacy law, which the European Commission has recognised as providing adequate data protection.
