Support my Move Your Butt challenge

This February, I’m taking on Move Your Butt for Bowel Cancer to raise money to support vital patient services and fund research to stop bowel cancer taking the people we love.

Because every month, 100 Kiwis lose their lives to bowel cancer.

Every dollar I raise for Bowel Cancer New Zealand will fund essential services for patients and survivors, such as counselling, physiotherapy, and financial assistance. These services provide the support and care that many people desperately need as they battle bowel cancer.

I’m asking for your help. Your donation, no matter how big or small, will help me reach my fundraising goal and provide life-changing support and research to help those affected by bowel cancer.

It only takes a minute to donate, and your generosity will make a real difference to the lives of those who need it most. Together, we can help fight bowel cancer and make sure no one has to face it alone.

Thank you for your support! 🧡

Upokongaro Bridge

Monday 2nd Feb
What to do on a drizzly day ….. drive until opposite Upokongaro, walk over the bridge to Behind the Door Cafe, enjoy their food and coffee under shelter in the garden, walk back and get in the car before it rains! The bridge is part of the Mountain to the Sea Cycle Trail.

The Waimarie Paddle Steamer

Sunday 1st Feb
It was a beautiful day to walk beside the awa.

Full Disclosure about walks & steps:

Sunday 1st Feb
When I signed up, I synced my Fitbit with the website. It’s a good thing I did because it is different to Steptember. Steptember extracts the daily step total whereas Move Your Butt extracts activities. This requires telling Fitbit that I have been for a walk or on the mini stepper.

Currently I am under strict instructions to take short walks, near home so I can get home easily when my knee hurts. I started with 5 min walks and I am currently going to the end of the street and back which is 15 mins in total, and I am usually hobbling by the time I get back. This walk only gets me 1 km of the 3 km needed per day.

I am comfortably doing 4,000-5,000 steps over the day and want to take that up to 5,000-6,000 (about 5,000 steps gets me 3km) per day in February, including the 15 min per day dedicated walk. For this reason, I am going to disengage Fitbit and manually input my daily step total.

I have accumulated 10 km so far with the daily walks being recorded. There was an option to wipe the slate clean but as it will be difficult for me to catch up steps if I miss a day or get behind (major dental work 3/4 of the way through will have me out for a couple of days), I’ve decided to keep these in the bank! I will do my best to get to 110 km so I actually do 100 km in February.
